This is a collection of Jim Walsh's "Favorite Pioneer Recording Artists" articles written for Hobbies magazine from 1942-1976. The influential column explored the lives of the recording artists of the acoustic era (1888-1925) and related topics.
The articles published in this edition are in the public domain due to lack of copyright registration. The final nine years of the column (1977-1985) are not yet public domain and have been omitted. Hobbies was originally published by Lightner Publishing Corporation, and is now owned by Pioneer Communications, Des Moines, Iowa.
The articles were scanned and processed by David Giovannoni from magazines in the collections of Tim Brooks, David Giovannoni, and the Library of Congress. This edition is presented by the National Recording Preservation Board, and was compiled and edited by Mason Vander Lugt.
